Mission & Learning Outcomes

Mission Statement

Who are we and who do we serve?

The UMD Department of Theatre is a community for storytellers, scholars, and creative artists. We bring people together to explore essential human questions through the performing arts. We nurture students and prepare them for professional opportunities in the arts and beyond.

What do we do today and what are we trying to accomplish?

By striving to think creatively, work collaboratively, and communicate effectively, we foster an environment for imaginative and intellectual discovery. We generate meaningful opportunities in production and the classroom that express a variety of perspectives and ideas through a range of methods and styles.
