Mission & Vision
A CLEAR DIRECTION
In the School of Fine Arts, we know where we are going and how we plan to get there.
The School of Fine Arts at the University of Minnesota Duluth educates students and the public in the visual and performing arts and serves as a cultural center for the campus and the surrounding region through creative activity, research, liberal education and public engagement.
The School of Fine Arts will educate and create across its various units, and with disciplines across the university, as well as the local, regional, and global communities through:
by valuing the transferrable skills attained through a fine arts education in curricular and co-curricular settings and by inspiring the creative activity, artistic and scholarly exploration, and critical analysis integral to advancing society.
by fostering a community of interdisciplinary learners enriched by meaningful experiences with the arts, by integrating innovative technologies as a pedagogical tool, by effectively implementing the liberal education program, by developing interdisciplinary curricula across the School of Fine Arts and across campus, and by cultivating an environment that encompasses the full landscape of learning.
by providing public engagement opportunities for students, faculty, and staff and expanding collaborations with our local and regional communities.
by developing sustainable global collaborations and study abroad programs that engage a wide variety of cultures, becoming an intercultural catalyst in the local community, the region, and around the globe.
