There is no longer a need to apply as of spring 2024 for the 2024 - 2025 school year. As long as you have filed a FAFSA at UMD and are currently enrolled you will be considered for all scholarships where you have eligibility.
Students eligible for the scholarships below which require additional information will receive an email with a link to a google form where additional information will be provided.
The following scholarships are available for the 2024 - 2025 academic year.

UMD Department of Art & Design Scholarship general requirements:
- Art & Design Major
- Open to part-and-full time students (award prorated based on the percentage of attendance)
- At least your second semester of study (15 credits completed at UMD)
- GPA 2.7 minimum cumulative grade point average AND
- GPA 3.0 art & art history grade point average

- Art & Design major
- Full-time student entering their Junior or Senior year at UMD (60 credits completed)

Geraldine Hanson Heller Art & Design Scholarship

Karl and Katarina Jaros Photography Scholarship
- Photo Minors or Digital Art and Photography Majors
- Full-time student in at least your second semester of study (15 credits completed at UMD)
- GPA 3.0 minimum cumulative grade point average
Scholarship Selection Considerations
In selecting scholarship recipients, the faculty considers such factors: the merit of student work; academic standing; financial need; our university goal of increasing diversity; as well as the directions of the donor.
This scholarship was established to assist students whose primary creative focus is photography.
Students eligible for this scholarship will be invited to provide supplemental materials after submission of the general application linked above.
Required supplemental materials:
- A written statement about the motivations for your work (as opposed to describing how the image looks).
- Upload examples of Photographic Work.

Marsha Hystead Believe in Better Scholarship
- Graphic Design BFA

- This scholarship was established by Hailey Sault in honor of Marsha Hystead's retirement and four decades with the company
Thomas L. Kerrigan Scholarship
- Art Education, Studio Art, or Art BA
This scholarship was established for the benefit of students studying art at the University of Minnesota Duluth.
Robert Repinski Scholarship in Printmaking
- Studio Art major OR art minor with 6 credits of printmaking (3 credits may be “in-progress” at the time of application)
- GPA 2.5 cumulative grade point average
- GPA 3.25 art & art history grade point average
- Full-time student entering their Junior or Senior year at UMD (60 credits completed)
- The scholarship is intended to assist students who would like to explore the medium beyond the introductory level.
In selecting scholarship recipients, the faculty considers: the merit of student work; academic standing; financial need; our university goal of increasing diversity; as well as the directions of the donor.
Additional considerations for this scholarship are: technical skills and intellectual content in printmaking; work that embraces social justice, diversity, non-discrimination, and community engagement; and active participation in extra-curricular activities that support the values stated above.

Applicants must have a demonstrated financial need (based on information provided on the application)
Olive Anna Tezla School of Fine Arts Scholarship
- Art & Design Major
- Must be a student in their third year who will be a senior in the next academic year
- Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 with a 3.0 Art & Design GPA
