Dean's List
Each semester, qualifying SFA students are recognized for high academic achievement by being placed on the SFA Dean’s List for Academic Excellence. A notation is placed on the qualifying students’ transcripts indicating this achievement. To be eligible for the Dean’s List, the student must:
- be in residence in the School of Fine Arts
- have earned a 3.50 or higher term GPA in that semester
- have completed all credits attempted in the semester
- have completed a minimum of 12 letter-graded credits in the semester
- have no grades of "I," "F," or "N" for the semester

Please note that UMD supplies the names of Dean’s List honorees to their hometown newspapers for recognition in print, unless you have chosen to have your contact information suppressed from public record. This web site listing includes all honorees except students who have chosen directory suppression or total suppression.
You can review and modify your suppression choices for future semesters by visiting the MyU Portal, clicking on the “My Info” tab at left, and then editing the Directory Suppression section on the next page.
Latin Honors
At UMD, 15 percent of the graduating class of each college can graduate with latin honors. In SFA, the top 3% of the class graduates summa cum laude; the next 5% graduates magna cum laude; and the next 7% graduates cum laude. At the beginning of each year, the GPAs necessary to achieve these honors are posted on the bulletin board outside 212 Humanities. The GPAs are based on the previous spring semester graduating class. To be eligible for honors, students must earn at least 30 credits from UMD.
