Described by the New York Times as an “able and persuasive advocate” of new music, pianist Nicholas Phillips’ playing has been praised for its “bejeweled accuracy” (Fanfare) and as “razor-sharp yet wonderfully spirited” (American Records Guide).
Described by the New York Times as an "able and persuasive advocate" of new music, pianist Nicholas Phillips is Associate Professor of Music at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. He is an active soloist, having played across the United States. He has also given a solo recitals in Korea (sponsored by the U.S. Embassy), Buenos Aires, Argentina, and at the Croatian Embassy in Washington, D.C.
In 2011, Phillips released two CDs on Albany Records: Portals and Passages (TROY 1246), which features the works for solo piano by American composer Ethan Wickman, and Boris Papandopulo: Piano Music (TROY 1274), which features music by the famous Croatian composer. His most recent CD, American Vernacular: New Music for Solo Piano, features works he commissioned from ten American composers. Read More

Dr. Ronnie Ingle, trumpet | Thursday, October 5, 2017 | Guest Artist Concert with the UMD Faculty Brass Quintet and UMD Student Brass Ensemble.
Dr. Ingle is Professor of Trumpet at the University of North Dakota and an Edwards Trumpet Performing Artist. He is a trumpet soloist of international acclaim, having recently performed in major international venues in Sweden, Australia, Canada, Brazil, China, Armenia, and the United States. He continues to appear as Resident Guest Artist and on Distinguished Artist Series' at numerous universities and institutions throughout the United States. Dr. Ingle serves as an adjudicator for the National Trumpet Competition in Washington, D.C. and the International Trumpet Guild Scholarship Competition. He was recently elected to the Editorial Review Board for the Journal of Research in Music Performance. His students consistently earn prestigious awards and honors as classical and jazz performers, and are accepted to graduate schools at the most highly acclaimed music conservatories and institutions throughout the United States. His trumpet ensemble has performed in the semifinal round of the National Trumpet Competition for the past three years, and has performed at the International Trumpet Guild Conference in Sydney, Australia; Anaheim, California; and Minneapolis, Minnesota. Dr. Ingle’s interest in music technology in teaching and performing have led to a performance at the SEAMUS (Society for Electro Acoustic Music in the United States) using MIDI wind controller technology, as well as multiple guest artist residencies, masterclasses, and presentations. Anthony Di Sanza, a recognized international performer and educator, has performed, presented master classes, and held residencies in North America, Europe and Asia. He has appeared as a visiting artist at over 45 colleges, universities and conservatories, and has performed as soloist and chamber musician in some of the world’s most important concert halls. Anthony can be heard on over 15 internationally distributed CD recordings with various artists, including; Sole Nero-Piano and Percussion Duo, Mark Hetzler Chamber Ensemble, Linda Maxey with Galaxy Percussion and Keiko Abe and the Michigan Chamber Players. In review of his 2011 solo CD release, On the nature of…, All Music Guide writes; “Di Sanza dazzles not only in the assurance and polish of his playing but in his tremendous vitality and spontaneity.” Anthony recently recorded Michael Udow’s multiple percussion concerto Moon Shadows for release in spring 2015. The Artaria String Quartet was recently lauded by Rob Hubbard of the St. Paul Pioneer Press -- “Artaria Quartet is likely to give eloquent voice to whatever work it tackles.” Artaria has served as MPR Artists-inResidence and was featured on Twin Cities Public Television as part of the MN-Original Television series. The quartet has appeared at major summer festivals including the Banff Centre in Canada, Festival de
L’Epau in France, and the Tanglewood Music Center in Lenox, Massachusetts. Artaria is the recipient of a highly coveted McKnight Fellowship for Performing Musicians, and has received Teaching Artist grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, Chamber Music America, Midori's Partners in Performance, and the Heartland Fund for performance and educational outreach. Members of the quartet are founders and directors of the Artaria Chamber Music School, a weekly chamber music program for young string players, Stringwood, a two-week summer festival held in Lanesboro, MN each June, and the Saint Paul String Quartet Competition, an annual national event that showcases America’s finest young string quartets from around the country.
