Lorena Suarez is currently pursuing her Master’s degrees in Orchestral Conducting at the University of Minnesota Duluth under the guide of Rudy Perrault. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Orchestral Conducting from the Conservatorio Luigi Cherubini di Firenze in Italy, where she also studied Choral Conducting and Vocal Composition. She also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Contemporary Music from the Universidad San Francisco de Quito in Ecuador. Currently, she is the Assistant Conductor of the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra under Dirk Meyer. She has been assistant conductor to Johanna Knauf at the Coro ed Orchestra Desiderio da Settignano, and also choir assistant conductor to Francesco Rizzi at the Conservatorio Luigi Cherubini. Lorena worked as conductor of the Piccola Orchestra delle Favole at the Teatro Everest in Florence.
As a performer, she played piano with the Big Band and the Chamber Orchestra of the Universidad San Francisco de Quito. In addition, she has played guitar as soloist, and with a variety of chamber groups.
