Bio

Dr. Jian-Jun Chen-Edmund is Assistant Professor of Music Education at the University of Minnesota Duluth. She teaches Methods of Research in Music Education, Curricular Trends in Music Education, Music in the Elementary Classroom, applied piano, advises graduate theses, and supervises student teachers. She received her Ph.D. in music education and served as Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Florida. Dr. Chen-Edmund has taught studio piano for eleven years and served as Keyboard Instructor for the Santa Fe College Continuing Education program. In 2007, she earned the Outstanding Academic Achievement Award from the UF International Center. Dr. Chen-Edmund earned her Master of Arts degree in music and music education at Teachers College, Columbia University and a bachelor degree in music performance at Fu Jen University in Taipei, Taiwan. She holds Orff Schulwerk and Kodály certifications and is a member of the International Society for Music Education, National Association for Music Education, Minnesota Music Educators Association, and Minnesota Society for Music Teacher Education. Dr. Chen-Edmund served as an Artist Initiative Music panelist for the Minnesota State Arts Board. She has presented research and conducted workshops internationally, nationally, and regionally at the Second, Fourth, and Fifth International Symposia on Assessment in Music Education, the International Society of Music Education World Conference, the NAfME National In-Service Conference, the Minnesota Music Educators Association Conference, the University of Minnesota Duluth Summit on Equity, Diversity, and Multiculturalism, the Florida Music Educators Association Conference, and the University of Florida Site-based Implementation of Teacher Education Program. Her research areas of interest include Taiwanese indigenous folk music, connections between music instruction and language development for ESOL students, teacher education, and assessment in music education.
