Steve Bardolph is an associate professor and graphic design area chair in the UMD Department of Art & Design. His immersive photographic and design panoramas, posters, presentations, artist books, and an interactive card game have explored the controversial and subjective topic of “the beautiful and sublime” in various exhibitions and lectures in North America, Hungary, Italy, and Turkey. Bardolph is an interdisciplinary collaborator, and with his master’s degree in photography and MFA in graphic design, he integrates diverse and complex ideas from multiple research arenas into readily accessible visual communication.
In Bardolph’s work, form contributes to narrative. Sense of place is paramount. Structure is applied for problem solving and clarity. Honesty and integrity are valued as much as beauty and organization. Space and time are fractured then reassembled in a dancing mosaic to enhance user experience.
