The Department of Music at UMD offers the variety and quality of musical instruction that you would expect from a place three times larger with the individualized instruction and care of an institution half the size. Come join us in Duluth; a town nestled against the lapping shores of the largest of the Great Lakes, Lake Superior, and home to a vibrant community of arts and artists. The Department of Music offers you the opportunity to continue your musical career as a music major, or your participation in ensembles as a non-major as well. We offer five different undergraduate degrees and four different graduate degrees in music as well as the minor in music and jazz studies. There is something for you here at UMD, and we’re here to help you find what that is!

Our world-renowned faculty-artists and lecturers work with students from 15 different states and 4 continents in beautiful Weber Music Hall, a dedicated Department of Music facility and recognized across the country as a top-tier performance facility. We deliver over 200 concerts and recitals per year and are dedicated to guest artist residencies in which our students receive instruction from performers and scholars from all over the globe.

Our talented faculty are specialists on their instruments and in their fields and travel the world performing on the world’s stages and they are passionate about your education and development as musicians and people.
