The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) program in Art History invites students to explore visual culture from an interdisciplinary and global perspective. Art history majors and minors learn how to describe, analyze and interpret art and artifacts from prehistory to the present. Faculty mentors collaborate closely with students to ensure academic success. The program’s focus on critical thinking, research, and written and verbal expression prepares students for work in a variety of cultural institutions, as well as graduate programs in art history and other areas of the humanities.
GPA of at least 2.00 in the major field required for graduation.
ArtH SLO 1 (Formal Properties). Identify and describe the formal properties of works of art using the vocabulary of art history
ArtH SLO 2 (Contextual Analysis). Analyze works of art in their cultural and historical contexts
ArtH SLO 3 (Writing Clearly). Write clearly and convincingly about art and its related ideas
ArtH SLO 4 (Disciplinary Methodology). Demonstrate competency in the basic research methods of art history
ArtH SLO 5 (Research & Investigation). Formulate a research question in the discipline and investigate it independently
ArtH SLO 6 (Social Responsibility). Create designs that respond to societal problems
