Avesa Rockwell

As a teacher of writing, I invite students to identify and research problems that affect their academic, professional, and/or personal discourse communities, to analyze the information, and to propose feasible and creative solutions to those who can enact change.  

As Writing Program Administrator, I manage scheduling, professional development, and assessment of teaching and learning in the College Writing and Advanced Writing courses.  

As a writer of essays and poetry, I have published pieces in Minnesota English Journal, Survive and Thrive, LakeTime Magazine, Freshwater Review, Gone Lawn, Talking Stick, and Perfect Duluth Day.

Prior to graduate school, I worked in the non-profit and public sectors in San Francisco, CA., where I taught environmental education, trained and placed literacy volunteers, coordinated a nationally recognized literary arts program, and raised money through grants, outreach, and events. These experiences continue to inform my work with students and the larger community. 

I also co-coordinate long-distance bicycle races in the Northland with my family’s company, Heck of the North Productions.
